5 HOURS WITH RAJA: NEWEST ADDITION TO SMILEY
A New Zealand documentary, 5 Hours with Raja, is Smiley’s latest acquisition in preparation for the upcoming MIP market in April. 5 Hours is an exceptional and moving documentary which follows a young mother carrying her baby to term, despite the diagnosis of anencephaly, a birth defect in which the baby would be born without a major portion of its head and therefore could not survive. The film follows the extraordinary journey of the young couple from the time they were informed of their baby’s defect and the decision that they had to make to either terminate or keep the pregnancy. The film spans the pregnancy, features extraordinary footage of the baby’s birth and the profound impact that 5 hours with Raja had on the family over the following months and years that followed. At face a story about death, 5 Hours is ultimately a story about love and the affirmation of life.
