SUICIDE FILM RESONATING WITH INTERNATIONAL BROADCASTERS

February 2009

The powerful and disturbing French-Canadian production With and Without You is finding resonance with the international market as it picks up its 4th deal and 3rd television license in the 3 months since its launch at MIPCOM in October. Previously sold to Israel, the film has just completed its second TV deal with UR in Sweden and has a third TV deal pending with another major European territory. The details of the third deal will be announced next month. The story is written POV style from director Maryse Chartrand's perspective who lost her husband Samuel to suicide. Samuel committed suicide shortly after the family took time off to escape on their year-long backpacking adventure, leaving behind their three young children. Although originally intended for the travel and adventure documentary that she was shooting, Maryse decided to use the footage of the family in the lead up to Samuel's death to tell instead a very different story and their attemtps thereafter to come to grips with the tragic event and cruel twist of fate.
